Katie O’Looney on this Exhibition

These new paintings are inspired by love for the incredibly dramatic and rich variety of landscape subjects here in Kerry.

The light is terribly special and the intensity and depth of colour is magical given the rapidly changing skies.

There is a particular quality in the lay of the land and its habitation that takes root and gradually grows with awareness.

The ancient trees, the distinctive rocks, mountains, lakes and coastal vistas of pounding seas and veiled stormy skies that break open and reveal a brilliant array of light and shadow.

Essentially I am interested in the contrasts and reflections, the neutralization of colours and in their sparkle. The observation of atmospheric effects and the method of working with the spectrum of colour as it relates to the elements and the ways in which objects are enveloped in space. The principles set out by Plato and Leonardo Da Vinci’s treatise continue the challenge for me to understand the art of painting.
